Day 25

Tuesday, 1st July

Laguna Beach and lost in Marina Del Rey

It was time to go home. There's is always a lump in my throat when I leave the USA; I never want to go home.

We were up at 8ish and had breakfast before packing up, finding a big hole in my case, dumping Paul's old case at reception and getting away by around 10:40. We got stuck on a railway crossing and then got a bit lost finding the Pacific Highway! A good start! It was a (relatively) short drive to LA, but it didn't seem that way!

We stopped at Solana Beach, and went into the Longs to see if we could find any duct tape to fix up my case. Also a strap. We found a strap, but the tape we bought was puny. The road was lovely, but we weren't making very good time and so we popped back onto I-5 and turned off again at San Juan Capistrano and had lunch from El Pollo Loco in Dana Point.

Our next stop was along the Pacific Highway to Laguna Beach. We parked and walked along the cliff top; beautiful views - a most beautiful place - bet it costs a bomb to live there!

Terry decided (WRONGLY) to turn up onto the motorway for Long Beach. Horrendous traffic! After much argument, shouting and discussion (!), we decided to take the interstate all the way to Marina Del Rey, as time was getting very short.

We had McDonalds in Marina del Rey and then went off in search of the marina!! We found Venice Beach and also found duct tape in a shop there! We got very lost and tempers were getting very frayed. In the end, we had to ask directions to the airport.

It was easy really! We arrived at the Alamo car rental drop-off at LAX, unloaded our luggage and said goodbye to Jasmine. :( We then took the Alamo shuttle to the Tom Bradley International Terminal.

We checked in our bags then had to take them to the TSA people for scanning. Our flight would've been on time had it not for somebody being unwell and having to have him/her medically checked, before we could finally take off! The flight was uneventful and boring, as are all red eye flights. It was also, of course, cramped.
