Day 17Monday, 23rd JuneThe Sun shines on Bryce Canyon
Up early, and we lolled around for a while, enjoying the marvellous scenery, before collecting our packed lunches from reception and getting on our way. It was a pity to leave. Heading back towards Moab, beside the Colorado river, there was a big bang and I discovered that the orange juice had exploded, beneath my feet!! The whole car reeked of oranges and we cleaned up as best we could, dumping everything in a skip at a rest stop at the end of the road! It was a funny day, both weatherwise and scenery wise. Mostly the sun shone, but occasionally, it would come over black and it would rain for 5 minutes. The scenery across I-70 was bleak, bleak desert as we crossed the San Rafael Desert. We phoned both Dad and Nick at a rest place in the middle of nowhere and discovered that the fish weren't well! We continued onwards, stopping at lookouts, such as Black Dragon Canyon and Eagle Canyon - all absolutely glorious! We turned off the interstate at Sevier, onto highway 89, passing Big Rock Candy Mountain!! At Panguitch we went the wrong way, but it seems as though lots of people take the wrong road here!
We drove past the entrance to Bryce Canyon NP and continued onto Tropic and our overnight cabin at the Stone Canyon Inn. We were greeted by the innkeepers and shown to our cabin (number 6 - but also number 7??), which was large (sitting room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms) and comfortable, apart from the beds!! We unpacked our stuff and then decided to head for the park! The skies looked black and we really hoped that we wouldn't get a thunderstorm like last time. We were lucky! It was all so beautiful. We managed to visit Bryce and Inspiration Points before it got too dark.
We went in Ruby's store to stock up on provisions, including eggs, which I hard-boiled back at the cabin! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
