Day 22

Saturday, 28th June

To San Diego

Aw, that was it - it was time to leave. :( All there was left to do was to pack up and to take some last minute souvenir photos. We could've happily have lived here. I wonder if they'll take an offer!

We left at about 10:30am. Bye-bye house.

It wasn't a great distance to San Diego, and we could afford to dawdle a bit. First stop was the Palm Desert Starbucks, as hub wanted a coffee!! I got a mug! It was nice sitting by the misters!

We drove over the San Jacinto Mountains, where there was a wonderful view over the whole Coachella Valley. There was also an ice-cream van, playing Christmas songs ....

Onwards, past Anza (where there was a village/town fete in progress), on to Temecula, along the most glorious of countryside. At Temecula, we went into the WalMart and got burgers. (We hadn't had one for a while!).

the In and Out burger joint at Temecula - we didn't stop there!

We went a bit astray closer to San Diego and found ourselves at the Westview Wolverines HQ!! We soon found the way into the center though and landed up outside the Homewood Suites, Liberty Station at about 3:50pm. We were solemnly told that we were too early for our suite and it wasn't ready. It would be ready so - go off and have a cup of coffee or something. So we had a coffee and went for a walk. Two walks, in fact, down around USS Recruit and along the path by the waterway. Our suite wasn't ready until 5:15! No real big problem, but it didn't leave us time to do an awful lot, by the time we got settled in!

Our suite was number 364 and it was very nice - 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a decent sized sitting room. There was a balcony in the 2nd bedroom, but we didn't have a view of much, apart from the car-park!

good job we brought the July 4th cup cakes!

At first, I wasn't sure whether we had made a mistake and that we might've been better off in downtown or by one of the beaches. But, after a day or two, I came to realise that this hotel was in the PERFECT peaceful spot!

We went off towards downtown, firstly, parking up at Harbor Island and having a look around.

We were glad we weren't staying at Humphreys, as it looked a bit scruffy. Then, into downtown proper, past the boats (nowhere to park) and onto Seaport Village, where we did manage to find a parking space. We were disappointed with the place. There were lots of shops, but all quite expensive and most full of tack. There were restaurants, but these were all full up - so we ate hot-dogs, which were awful and extremely expensive! One good shop was Upstart Crow, where we happily browsed the books for a while and where I bought some cards.

Then we got lost, doing a test drive to Petco Park! We ended up at some military establishment!! We finally got 'home' and, after some discussion, we decided to miss the start of the baseball game tomorrow and watch the Euro final! Then we would take a taxi to the game!
