Day 1 - Thursday, 21st June - To Faro We were at Exeter airport in good time, and we phoned the car-parking people from Exeter Parking Unlimited and the man arrived to take our car away. We sat around the (very small) check in place for a while, before going through security. BAD NEWS our 15:40 flight (with FlyBE), number BE1551, didn't take off until nearly 18:00! The departure lounge was claustric and noisy - you couldn't see outside and nowhere to smoke - but, finally (phew!), Paul and I found a terrace overlooking the runway.   Our plane was a Fokker 100 called "Sun Adria", flying the Croatian flag!  The flight was fine (lovely to see the Sun again, even although we had to go up to 30,000 feet to do so!)  The big downer about the flight was Thomas, who sat behind us. He screamed for all but about 15 minutes of the flight. It was amazing flying out over the sea, over islands, before coming in to land at Faro.   It was just about dark when we picked up our car, courtesy of a cute little Drive4Fun guy with pony-tail (called Luis). A Fiat Punto - silver - with hard seats and broken bits.  Amazingly, we didn't get lost and found our way to our villa, Casa Dos Choupos (House of the Poplars). Helen was there to meet us and gave us a tour of the property, which is great - very spacious. Phoned Dad and then enjoyed some beer and wine. VERY glad to get to bed! (Although the Whirlpool man is returning the (broken) dishwasher in the morning 9-9:30, after having, hopefully, fixed it!  Oh dear - look what he's found! |
