Ever wondered what makes a Parma fan?? Or where they came from?? Bet you always thought they all lived in Italy?!? Wrong! The Parma-L Mailing List currently (22 Jan 2000) has 375 members from all corners of the globe. You can read all our messages on HERE, but if you are interested, then you would find it much more fun if you joined the list! Below are a few bios of just a handful of our members. Thanks to them for allowing me to use them here (although, as I already said - you can read all our messages elsewhere anyway!).
Hope that answers some of the inquiries; best wishes to all. Ciao. REB
I'm 23 years old. (excactly one month younger than Ronaldo.) Live in swedish town Gävle, 170km north of Stockholm. (I am planning on moving down to Stockholm next winter though.) I have a university degree in computer science and I work as a consultant. Unfortunately I'm doing a poor job on being the average computer geek... Not interested enough I guess. I'm currently not playing any football. I was growing too fast when I was around 14-15 so I became too slow and too weak and when I lost my regular place when I was 16 I simply quit. This made me uninterested in football for a few years. My interest came back when I was around 19. I try to stay in shape though and that's one of my present "hobbies". I'm not really interested in spanish, french, german or english football. Simply because I don't have a favourite team in those leagues. The reason why I am a Parma fan is quite simple. The reason is spelled Tomas Brolin. But when he left for Leeds I stayed. And now I see it as an advantage that we have no swedish players in Parma. Because in the days of Brolin I wasn't completely happy if we didn't win AND Brolin had played well. Now all I care about is us winning, not having that particular favourite player to worry about. But if I have to name a few of my favourites it have to be Crespo and Buffon. I didn't like Crespo that much in previous years and always believed that we could find someone better. But now he have proven Ancelotti right and I wouldn't trade him for anyone. Both Crespo and Buffon mix truely great performance with true feelings for Parma. I find that particulary appeling. Thuram is a great player but I keep hearing rumours about him leaving and I don't like that. That's all for now...

That's about it
The leagues I follow (in Hong Kong, I don't have a TV set in Germany) are Italian Serie A and English Premiership (which is very popular in Hong Kong). I watch most of the football programmes I have in Hong Kong, if I don't have too much homework at that time. I will follow most of the "major" leagues (e.g. Spanish) in Europe whenever it's possible. I don't like some of the football commentators in Hong Kong since they are too biased (when it's Parma-Juve, or Parma-Milan, Parma will probably become a crap team, according to what they say) and they personally like Manchester United (Man Utd-Leeds, then Man Utd must win etc.), AC Milan and Juventus too much, I think. My favourite team is (of course) Parma. I don't have any second teams but I find some teams like Roma, Aston Villa (so Gareth Southgate is fine to me, Frances!), Chelsea (too many foreign players though) etc good. I respect every team and footballer, so I don't particular hate any teams. My favourite footballers? I like Dino Baggio (as always), Mario Stanic (he's always good when I can see the live game in Hong Kong! :)), Paolo Vanoli, and of course, Alain Boghossian and Hernan Crespo. The ex-Parma players I like are Di Chiara, Pin, Gianfranco Zola and Enrico Chiesa. And the others... Le Saux (I never know how to spell and pronounce his name properly!), Tore Andre Flo (someone that Marten hates!), Gareth Southgate (!), Darren Huckerby, Marc Overmars, Bixente Lizarazu, and, Davor Suker! :) Oh yeah, and do yu get to see games on TV? "Yes" in Hong Kong and "no" in Germany... sigh... we can only have some in the Irish pub here but they never have Serie A games! :(
Ciao,
I guess that's it for now. Christoffer
I am on vacations now but in feb. 21 I'll start my last year at school, and I hope to get a place at the Federal University for the year 2001, I intend to get to Languages School, cause I love languages, especially English and now Italian. (you're gonna hate me for this but I'm gonna be honest with you all - hope you can forgive me!) When I started following Serie A, around August, 1998, I first liked Juventus, and I still support them like crazy. But there was something about Parma that made me like the team as much as Juve, probably the will to do their best, or the union that the players have, I really don't know. But I started to like them and now I say I support both Parma and Juve!! Besides Serie A, I kind of follow the Spanish league, where I like Valencia. And I support also our local team, Internacional. My fave Parma player is (DOH!) Crespo. He's the greatest, he's an amazing player who can decide a match in, like, one minute... he has a great personality, you don't ever read or hear his name together with the word 'trouble' like you often do with other players, he's probably almost perfect. I also like Buffon and Ortega a lot. As for another players, I like some Juve ones (DEL PIERO, Davids, Kovacevic, Zambrotta), the Argentines in general (VERON, ALMEYDA, Simeone, Zanetti, Pablo Aimar, Javier Saviola, Juan Pablo Sorin...), and some others (Raul, Kluivert, Rivaldo, Jardel, Guardiola) and I must have forgotten some other names. I do play football at school, but not in a team, we just have to play sometimes at Physical Education (we actually receive grades for PE - yuck). I really suck and I try to play as a defender. Finally, yep, I get to see matches on tv because of Rai International, and now there's a Brazilian channel which started to broadcast one Serie A match live every weekend. Alice
I am going to start the 3rd year of Business School. I'm just studying, having a good life and enjoying myself while I don't start working (which will be pretty soon anyway)... =( Now, about football: I started following football very early, since here in Brazil it is almost impossible for you to get rid of it!!!! I support my local team, called Sport Club Internacional [the club that have Dunga as captain!!], but we're doing pretty bad this season, no signings, lousy coach, etc, etc, etc. But I started to get more keen on football on last World Cup, cause there was a strike in my Uni so I had nothing better to do than watching ALL the WC matches, haha! Don't need to mention how disappointed I was watching our National Team!!! After that I noticed ESPN broadcasted Serie A matches and I started following it. Despite being a fan of Brazilian Squad, I have to admit I also like Argentinian Squad, so I started following Parma cause I am a big, big fan of Juan Sebastian Veron. I was very sad to see him leaving the team [as well as the other Argentinians like Sensini and Balbo] and going to Lazio, but what could I do? =P Last year I had this amazing experience of facing some Argentinians Int'l players, when they came to Porto Alegre for the friendly against Brazil last September. It was so wondeful cause I had the opportunity to see my fave player, Veron, right in front of me! Besides Parma I enjoy watching Juve matches [sister's influence] and Lazio matches [don't need to say why]. Also I try to follow the English Championship, but 'thanks' to ESPN I do not see the Premier League anymore. But I support Everton, and I am also a big fan of the Scottish midfielder John Collins. Ah! And I don't like watching the Spanish League! My hobbies are browsing the Internet [DOH!], movies, reading, listening to my fave songs [all latin!!!], and going to night clubs with my friends.
See ya!
Fave players..on Parma...Gigi caught my eye real early on. I love his style, I love to wtch exciting keepers, and he's one of the most exciting around--I rate him right behind Bayern's Oliver Kahn (and Bayern is another team I support). Of course Fabio...Hernan (guys don't read this part--but girls, don't you think Hernan is so cute?? I love his hair!)...and Bennarivo...I am such a sucker for Benny it's not funny! So if anyone knows stuff about him please post it to the list or email me privately. Like, I assume he's married--what's her name, how many kids, hobbies, etc. Just fave players in general since several of you have mentioned more..Maldini is my top man...Rui Costa, Torricelli, Zamorano, Bati, Bierhoff, Shevchenko, Totti, Pagliuca, Olie Kahn and I guess that's about all I'll mention since I've already told you who my Parma boys are! I still happen to think the scudetto race is wide open...tho I just read THE most disgusting thing at Yahoo Sports--World Soccer. That Juve is hoping to repeat history--almost every year they've been the top team at the halfway point they've gone on to win. BLECCCHHHHH!!!! Juve bores me about to tears, and I find their fans to be pretty obnoxious. I think Parma will definitely be in the top 4, and I'm going to tell you right now...If Milan can't pull it off, Parma's the team I'm going to push for. Boo to Juve...boo to Lazio....triple boo to Inter. Anyone else have any predictions they want to make as we sit at the halfway point of the season?
thanks for listening! ![]()
My passion for Italian football started in the early 90´s (or late 80´s). All of my friends started to support Juve or Milan, so I had to find my team to support. I didn´t have a doubt, that it should be Parma, when I saw them play Milan, at the tardini - I think it was in 92. My fav. players at Parma is Melli, Minotti, Chiesa, Buffon, Thuram and Fuser. Other fav. are Batistuta, Grönkjćr, Bergkamp, Rivaldo, Verón, Overmars and Nesta. Besides Parma I support (Parma is number 1) Sampdoria and Arsenal - one of the clubs in England without Norwegians. Jacob
Hope I wasn`t too boring, Anya
I support Parma because I was born there and even though when I was a kid I wasn't allowed to go the stadium (too dangerous, said mom... :-) ), I've always followed the yellow-blues also in their dark years of Serie B or Serie C. So when they reached Serie A I finally had the permit of going to the stadium and my first season ticket, it was 1990 and, believe me, looks like yesterday... Beside Parma I also like Sampdoria (we are twinned with them) that was my favourite team in Serie A during our dark ages, Verona (also twinned) and Brescia in Serie B. Among foreign teams I like Spartak Moscow in Russia (and who could doubt? :-) ), Liverpool in England, Ajax in Holland, IFK Göteborg in Sweden, Brřndby in Denmark and Rosenborg (sorry, Danish mates, I like all Scandinavians including Norwegians). And also Bordeaux (the only foreign team with whom Parma supporters are twinned), I follow German and Spanish Leagues but with no favourite team: this season I have a weak for Barcelona and Hertha Berlin (most of all for what they did to Milan). :-) Hard to find a favourite player among the current squad, almost like them all. It's easier to find my all-time favs: Alessandro Melli, Tomas Brolin, Georges Grun; if I had to choose one today, I guess it would be Crespo. But Thuram, Cannavaro, Buffon, Boghossian, Vanoli, Fuser, Amoroso and Walem are great too. Just like someone else said I like to "discover" young players too and I'm happy if they have success no matter if with Parma or not. Other Italian players I like are Tacchinardi, Baronio, Pirlo, Brocchi, Binotto, Fiore (what a regret!), Zanchi, Cassano, Montella, Adani. Among international players... well, there is a lot... starting from Seedorf, Rui Costa, Alenichev, Josč Mari (but now I like him a little less... :-) ), Almeyda, Daniel Andersson in Serie A and then Overmars and Petit from Arsenal, McManaman and Morientes from Real Madrid, Giggs and Scholes from Man Utd., Tikhonov and Titov from Spartak Moscow, Micoud and Wiltord from Bordeaux, all Barcelona, Deisler and Wosz from Hertha Berlin, Julen Guerrero from Athl.Bilbao, Van Nisterlooy (PSV) and Tomasson (Feyenoord), Carew and Sřrensen (Rosenborg), Ilie e Claudio Lopez from Valencia and many many more that I don't even remember. As you already know my girlfriend Anya and me are giving the final touch-up to our new Parma site and we hope to open it as soon as we can (though some sections will be opened later). Of course you will be the first ones to know when it's ready and all the suggestions will be welcome. That's all. Mattia
