"PEANUT" PETRIFIED WOOD

This Peanut Wood comes from Australia and is weird!! It looks just like a bit of peanut brittle, but is in fact, "teredo-bored petrified wood". "Teredo" in this instance, was a type of bivalve mollusc (the wood dates back to Jurassic times) which bored through the wood. The holes were then filled with a silicified material and during petrification of the wood as a whole, solidifies - but usually is a different colour to the surrounding petrified wood.
