Jurassic White Marble from Carrara, Italy
A metamorphic rock formed from pure (monomineralic) limestone. Forms when limestone is intruded by igneous rock (contact metamorphism). The heat from such events causes recrystallization of the calcite, thus destroying original stuctures in the limestone. (Low pressure; high temperature)
