CHRYSOCOLLA
| ||
Named from the Greek chrysos - "gold" and kolla - "glue" in allusion to the name of the material used to solder gold. It forms in the altered parts of copper deposits and occurs with azurite, malachite and cuprite. It is also an important mineral for ore prospectors, as its presence may suggest that copper deposits are nearby. It (obviously) occurs in copper-mining areas, particularly Chile, the former USSR, and Zaire. "Eilat Stone" (intergrown with malachite and turquoise) reputedly came from King Solomon's mines.
